Gaming VS Screen Acting

  • The Gaming Industry and Screen Acting Industry are closely related and share a common link. Nowadays, Most games and their characters are mostly based on movies and real life scenarios.Putting into consideration the game 'Call of Duty' manufactured by Activision; you recognise the closeness in pattern with so many wars dating as far back as 'Vietnam War'.
  •  The diversity and similarity between both fields could be seen as a Win or Lose situation i.e Actors are being used as game characters and Game characters used in movies. e.g the movie 'Avatar' and the game 'Terminator'.The Screen Acting and Gaming are at a rapid speed taking a very futuristic pattern, In the sense that; most 'Oscar winning Movies' like Avatar would have games created based on the original movie and more also, in modern games; they introduce sophisticated and updated weapons that are yet to come in the near future.
  • Presently, the simulation between the Gaming Industry and Screen Acting Industry owe all gratitude to technology because gaming is totally interactive- Online gaming and games like the Nintendo Wii.
  • On the other hand, the Screen Acting Industry; I predict would become more interactive whereby the viewers are given a choice to play their favourite character and dictate the end of a movie. At the longrun, all credit given to media convergence.

Content Producers in Screen Acting

  • The ownership conglomerate structure of the Screen Acting field consists of  many Producers with different micro subsidiaries which are intertwined
  • Some of the major contributors in the Screen Acting field are; Fox Entertainment Group (owned by News Corporation), Paramount Motion Pictures group (owned by Viacom), Sony Pictures Entertainment ( owned by Sony ) and EMI films to mention a few.
  • The Conglomeration of these few companies and many other feeders provides the collective top down structure of the Screen Acting world. With close research and findings, it is a fact that conglomerates like 20th Century Fox, Blue Sky Studios etc. are subsidiary companies of Fox Entertainment Group, Nickelodeon Movies, MTV Films ( UK based ) and many more serve  a major production company-Paramount Motion Pictures Group.
  •  Moreso, EMI films  has underneath its production structure smaller production companies e.g, British Lion Films and more, Sony Pictures Entertainment is at the core of conglomerates consisting of  TriStar Pictures, Triumph films,... etc..
  • These above mentioned content producer companies and conglomerates mainly originate from the USA  but have sister companies and affiliates in the UK which mirror their operations thereby making it an even more multicultural Industry and Society enabling the showcasing of diverse nations and encouraging partnerships.
  • Conclusively, most of the companies that dictate the pace in the Screen Acting Industry are not of UK origin. however, this does not imply that the UK has no stake in the Screen Acting business in respect to the USA.

Grass to Grace with Jason Statham

  • One of the most delightful British  actors ever known to play so many classic roles in movies that top charts and made waves in screen acting; 'Jason Statham'- He was born on the 12th of september 1972 in Sydenham london and later moved to Great Yarmouth,Norfolk.
  • Jason Statham initially followed the path of his parents mastering the art of street theatre. He had diverse interests in sporting events like football which he played at a competitive level in which he played for his local grammar school(1978-1983).  His main passion however was diving and he placed 12th in the world championships 1992 besides being a member of the British National diving team for 12 years.
  • Jason Statham's big break arrived when he was spotted at the Crystal palace National Sports Center by a athletics talent hunter which led to his first modelling contract with Tommy Hilfiger.

           Career

  • Subsequently, he was introduced to Guy Ritchie  whilst working as a model for French connection. Securing the role of "Bacon" role in Guy Ritchie's movie "Lock, Stock and twoSmoking Barrels" proved a massive hit and that set the stage for his acting career. Shortly afterwards, he appeared in another guy Ritchie film "Snatch" which was a massive hit and propelled him to Stardom in Hollywood. This was followed by his leading roles in Hollywood films like "The Ghost of Mars" and "The One".

  • Perhaps his best known work in a highly prolific career is his leading role in the "Transporter" movie series where his martial arts background was an advantage as it provided the opportunity to do his own stunts. After "Transporter 3" (2008), he was cast in a supporting role in 'The Italian Job"(2003) and "Cellular"(2004) also starring Kim Basinger. He also had a walk on role in "Collateral" before going ahead to take the lead role in "Crank" (2006) which was an action packed, adrenaline fuelled movie.
  • Quite interestingly, Jason Statham attributes his performance in Crank to type casting and said that he is very much like the character he played in real life. He has a had a long standing professional relationship with Guy Ritchie and he was again cast in "Revolver".

  • Jason Statham showed his versatility in acting in a lesser known film "London"(2005) where he potrays a youn man's journey of self discovery. this performance was a departure from his stereotypical high octane roles.

  • Armond White, an American film critic, commended Jason Statham's Career and described his role in Transporter as "kinetic pop art". Although Jason Statham has not been awarded any accolades of recognition in Hollywood, his movies have grossed over £1 billion in the box office. According to him, "You ain't ever gonna get an Academy Award for doing Crank (2006) and you certainly won't for doing all the other movies 'I've done'.
